Starting the Application

When you insert the CD, the application starts automatically. You can either launch the application from the CD or from the setup programme.
If you are installing the programme on a single-user system, you create only a desktop icon and a programme group. Here, too, the programme will be launched from the CD.
If you want to install the application on a network, please select the network password and directory. Later on, when you update your software, you will only need to update the network installation.

Please note: When you first launch the programme, you can use your old bookmarks and any searches you have saved from the old version.

Please note: If you wish, you can transfer the bookmarks and saved searches later on using the "DINKONVERT.EXE" program. You will find the file in the Program Directory.

Introduction

This application allows you to conduct searches in your full text collections. You can then print out bibliographical details contained in the hits (as a list and as a full display). Alternatively, you can simply open the full texts of the documents in which you have conducted your search. You can also simplify your search using convenient functions such as saving your searches and bookmarks.

Please note: The screenshots in these help texts were created using the "AD 2000-Regelwerk" full text collection. They may differ slightly from the user interfaces in your full text collection.

The Application Structure

Every page of your application contains the following elements:

Horizontal Navigation Bar

Browsing

Green arrows (above left) for moving to the previous or the next page.

Home

Jump from any page back to the first page.

Printing

You can click on the "Print" icon in both the search result and the full display to start printing.
see Print search result

Closing the program

You can terminate the program at any time by clicking on the white cross with the red background.

Quick search

The quick search allows you to conduct a search without using the search mask and to switch to the search result. This search allows you to research simultaneously in the following fields: "Document identifier", "Search terms", "Title (English)" and "ICS".

Vertical Navigation Margin

Please note: Each page you open offers you new navigation choices. You can, for instance, save additional searches in the search result, load your last search, call up the help texts most relevant to your search result, and so on.

After you have started the application, you will see an overview of all the documents in the full text collection / standards collection (see illustration). Depending on the application, a distinction is made between documents already in subscription, newly added documents, etc.

Searching for documents in the search mask

If you require further information, please consult the section entitled Search mask.

Overview of the Documents

If you click on the icon, you will see an overview of the corresponding full text documents. Here, you can also switch to the full display or to the full text display.

Updating information

If you have selected update-info in the navigation margin, a new window will open

The update info contains information on monthly changes and update status, and indicates changes made to the full text collection.

Search Mask

Searches are conducted in the search mask.

Search options

If you only want to search for documents that you have bookmarked, click "Yes" in the top margin of the search mask. The default setting is "No". In other words, you search for documents with and without bookmarks.

If you activate the filter "Yes", hits will be shown separately in your search result as types of documents such as standards, draft standards, miscellaneous, etc. You can perform searches more quickly without a filter.

Conducting searches

The Search mask offers you a choice of eight Search fields. In two search fields (see below) you can choose search fields in a selection box. You can also restrict your search result by entering document types and update code.

Please note: You will find further information on the Index lists in the section entitled Index list. In addition, you can use the (ICS) Hierarchical list in the "ICS" search field.

Please note: If you frequently use the same search terms. you need only enter one or two characters. All you have to do then is to select the search term with a click of the mouse.

The two lower Search fields contain selection boxes where you can select a special search field.

Resetting the Search Mask

Logical Connection

The Search fields and the single terms in a field are linked by logical connections. It does not matter whether you use capitals or small letters. You can manually enter operators in a search field to link the search terms and thus avoid using the standard "And connection".

AND Connection

Both Search terms must be in the Search field
For example: child's safety seat and vehicle

OR Connection

One of the two search terms must be in the search field.
For example: air resistance or drag coefficient or vehicle dynamics.

NOT Connection

All data records are relevant that do not contain the search term entered in the search field.
For example: vehicle dynamics not motorbike not motorcycle

If you are using a set succession of words, you must enter your search terms in quotation marks (").
For example: "hazardous material"

Truncation

A search term can be truncated with an asterisk. The following rules apply:
search term* - searches for the start of the word
*search term - searches for the end of the word
*search term* - searches for parts of a word anywhere
Spaces must be avoided under all circumstances between the asterisk and the word.
For example: air resistance* or *dynamics*

Range operators

A range operator connection (greater than/less than) can be entered in numerical and date fields in the following form:
>VALUE <VALUE (random order, without any spaces!!!)
For example: >1990 <2000

Navigating in the Search mask

You can use the navigation margin on the left to switch to the searches, display documents with bookmarks and consult the Overview.
